OUTREACH LINKING THE CARE OF THE LAND To THE PEOPLE
Jaguar Bridges works with several local villages and churches in southern Costa Rica that are in buffer zones to national forests, national parks, and other protected areas. We assist the small community schools and churches with different types of construction projects, which include:
Installing water infrastructure at natural springs
Installing water catchment and piping to buildings and houses
Church building improvements
Building culverts and foot traffic bridges
Revamping kitchens
Rebuilding bathrooms for the physically impaired
We engage in the following campaign process from our home base in the U.S. We follow this process in order to identify these simple needs with the local village leaders, pastors, and schoolteachers.
Engage in media and outreach campaign to garner support and raise awareness of the village needs,
Collect, accumulate and store the shoes, school supplies, toys, and stuffed animals,
Raise financial support for the VAT and import taxes, truck and airline shipping,
Pack and ship the donations, goods, and supplies we have collected to Costa Rica.
Jaguar Bridges garners goods and supplies to be donated from businesses, churches, and families in the United States to schools and local churches for the children and families. The community then hosts outreach events, such as rural school fairs, vacation bible school programs, and soccer tournaments. At these events, we assist with logistics (i.e. food and funds) and disperse the donated goods that are packed and shipped from the United States.
The much needed goods and supplies for the villages focus on children and families includes:
croc shoes and boots,
school supplies,
toys and stuffed animals,
food staples
Jaguar Bridges conducts these acts of service to the local communities who are dependent on the healthy rainforest ecosystems, thus providing a link to understanding the intrinsic need to care for the land, the animals, and the people. Thereby, we cultivate further development of the "bridge" between conservation and sustainability of local communities. Examples of these community partnerships are below:
Dos Brazos del Tigre
Pavones
Carate
BriBri
Las Alturas
Agua Buena
The heart and soul of Jaguar Bridges stems from our passion to serve communities and foster conservation in rural Costa Rica. To reiterate, the jaguar is a "bridge" to conserving tropical forests because of their dependence on healthy, connected, rainforests. Correspondingly, rural villagers rely on natural resources from healthy rainforests such as clean water, healthy soils protected by forests, and non-timber forest products. Hence, it is important to better understand the wildlife and forests through research and relay results to the communities on the economic and inherent benefits of rainforest conservation. Therefore, we strive to enhance the standard of living of families through community service projects. Through our projects, we encourage local villages to serve as gardeners of the rainforest.
Remember: Jaguar Bridges promotes "One Jaguar and One Community at a Time"
